The idea came on one of our adventures. While spending time with the shepherds in the Altai and Tian Shan mountains, it was apparent to us that they were entirely dependent on a reasonable income if they were to be discouraged from poaching the animals in the mountains where they live. With China just across the border and many smugglers willing to pay good money for both meat and the skins and bones from Ibex and Maral deer as well as Snow Leopards and other predators.
By helping them with a better income, maybe, we just might be able to offset the pressure of poaching, if only for a few animals. – We think it was worth the effort.

With a little research we managed to find a Fair Trade partner who could provide us with wool directly from the Co-operatives which shepherds in the Altai mountains of Outer Mongolia own together. It was, for us, a done deal. The quality of the wool is – for us – exceptional for the type of shirts we wanted to make.
These wool shirts are superb. They will keep you warm, also when wet – they look and feel good, they are odour resistant – meaning that you can wear them for many days even if sweating.
